Breaking: Delta State set to make history

Delta State is set to make history on Monday, April 28, 2025, as it officially declares its allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This development comes after a significant shift in the state's political landscape, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on April 23, 2025.

The mass defection, which includes key PDP leaders and stakeholders in the state, aims to sustain progress in law, security, and welfare. The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniagwu Charles, attributed the decision to the need for renewed direction and enhanced governance, likening the PDP to a "palm wine whose taste has changed".

*Key Figures Involved:*

- *Governor Sheriff Oborevwori*: Current Governor of Delta State, who defected from PDP to APC alongside former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

- *Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa*: Former Governor of Delta State and PDP presidential running mate in the 2023 election, who confirmed his defection to APC.

- *Vice President Kashim Shettima*: Expected to receive Okowa and Oborevwori on Monday, April 28, 2025, as they officially join the APC.

The defection is expected to significantly alter party dynamics in the South-South region, historically a PDP stronghold. By joining the APC, Delta State will likely experience a dramatic realignment in its political landscape.¹
