Gov. Oborevwori, Delta PDP Structure Mass Movement to APC Will Strengthen Peace and Development in Delta State – Nani

The Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Barr. John Obukohwo Nani, has described the recent defection of the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the mass movement of the entire structure of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a strategic and progressive decision that will entrench peace and catalyze development across Delta State.

Speaking during a live interview on Channels Television’s flagship breakfast programme Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, Barr. Nani said the defection was not a spontaneous move but a well-considered collective decision reached by stakeholders, leaders, and faithful of the PDP from the three senatorial districts, 10 federal constituencies, 25 local government areas, wards, and polling units across the state. He asserted that the mass movement has effectively collapsed the PDP's political structure in Delta State into the APC, signaling a new chapter for inclusive governance and sustained growth.

“The movement was not just about the Governor or any individualsl; it was about a vision for peace, unity, and genuine development. It was a collective decision borne out of the need to align Delta with the center for the good of our people. From the grassroots to the top political hierarchy, this move was unanimously endorsed,” Nani stated.

Addressing the root causes of the defection, the DESOPADEC Chairman pointed to the unresolved leadership crisis at the national level of the PDP, citing multiple court cases over the position of the National Secretary and other contentious issues. He criticized the national leadership of the PDP for what he described as a lack of seriousness in resolving internal disputes and preparing for the 2027 general elections. “Let’s face the truth—PDP has failed to act like a real opposition. The leadership is weak, disorganized, and not ready for the challenges ahead. There’s too much litigation and uncertainty at the center. That’s why we moved forward, united under the APC for the sake of Deltans,” he added.

Barr. Nani also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his pragmatic and inclusive leadership, especially his administration's commitment to addressing critical infrastructure in Delta State. He noted that virtually all federal roads in the state are receiving urgent attention and special interventions under the Tinubu administration. “President Tinubu has shown uncommon realism in fixing neglected infrastructure. From the Delta sections of the East-West Road to the Benin-Asaba Expressway, Sapele-Abraka road and several others, federal projects are ongoing at a pace we’ve never seen before. This kind of leadership is what Delta needs to align with,” he said.

On the performance of Governor Oborevwori, Hon. Nani highlighted the numerous achievements of the current administration, noting that the defection to the APC will multiply development efforts across all fronts. He emphasized that with this mass alignment to the ruling party at the center, Deltans should expect enhanced federal support, better infrastructure, and more inclusive growth. “Governor Oborevwori has done remarkably well in all areas of governance. With this mass movement, development will now come from all fronts for the benefit of all Deltans. We are positioned for prosperity,” Nani affirmed.

He further revealed that the mass defection has also helped to harmonize internal issues within the APC in Delta State, noting that Governor Oborevwori has pledged to foster unity and ensure that all stakeholders work together in the interest of the party. “The APC family in Delta is now united. All internal crises have been buried. The governor has assured us that going forward, the interest of the party and the people will be paramount. This is a turning point not just for the APC, but for Delta and Nigeria,” Nani concluded.
