The Reign and Legacy of His Royal Majesty  Oyingha Ubula, Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom

Introduction: Egbema Kingdom, an Ijaw-speaking coastal domain straddling parts of Delta and Edo States in Nigeria, is steeped in rich traditions and historical continuity. At the helm of its traditional leadership is the Agadagba — a sacred title bestowed on its monarch. Among the distinguished rulers of this kingdom stands HRM Oyingha Ubula, Bini Pere II whose reign marked a transformative chapter in Egbema history.

Early Life and Ascension: Ubula was born into the royal lineage of Egbema from the Ajakurama ruling house, raised amidst the customs and duties befitting a future king. His ascension to the throne followed the passing of his predecessor and was guided by the oracles, kingmakers, and the traditions of the Egbema people.

Reign and Achievements: During his reign, Ubula championed the preservation of Ijaw cultural heritage and promoted unity among the nine original communities of the Egbema Kingdom. He was known for his wisdom in conflict resolution and his role in fostering peaceful coexistence with neighboring ethnic groups. His tenure also witnessed infrastructural development which includes the construction of the Udo/Ofunama road and advocacy for the Niger Delta region's environmental rights. But, His greatest achievement was the inclusion of the Egbert Kingdom in old bendel state kings and chief Gazette of 1979 that official recognized the traditional institution of Egbema

Cultural Significance: The Agadagba is not merely a ruler but also the spiritual and cultural custodian of the land. Ubula's reign reinforced the sacred rites of the Egbesu deity and the role of age-grade societies in governance.

Legacy: Ubula’s leadership left a lasting impact on the people of Egbema. His legacy lives on through oral traditions, public projects, and the strengthened identity of the Egbema people in the Ijaw nation.
