A disturbing and bizarre incident in Anambra State has left residents shocked and government officials scrambling for answers after it was revealed that an 18-year-old apprentice impregnated ten different girls within a period of just five months.

The scandal was brought to light by the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, during a live social media broadcast on Wednesday. She described the case as “overwhelming” and called on the public, religious leaders, and mental health professionals to intervene.

“This matter is beyond me,” Obinabo declared with visible concern. “The boy was sent to learn a trade, but within three months, he got both his master’s daughter and the salesgirl pregnant. He was sent back home, and in just two months in the village, he impregnated eight other girls.”

A Pattern of Seduction and Broken Promises

The Commissioner disclosed that upon questioning, the boy claimed he seduced the girls by professing love and making false promises of marriage once he became rich.

“I asked him what magic he uses to lure these girls,” Obinabo said. “He told me that he simply tells them he loves them and plans to marry them when he makes money.”

What has particularly unsettled the ministry is not only the boy’s age and boldness, but also the ease and speed with which he was able to persuade multiple young girls—many believed to be teenagers like him—to engage in unprotected sexual relations.

Mother in Distress, Community in Shock

The boy’s mother, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly approached the Ministry in tears, begging for help. “Any time I see a girl approaching our compound, my heart skips,” the mother was quoted as saying. “I am no longer at peace. Please, I need help.”

The Commissioner, clearly disturbed by the case, stated that the ministry had never encountered anything of this magnitude. “This goes beyond juvenile delinquency,” she said. “It raises deep questions about parenting, community values, sexuality education, and even spiritual or psychological health.”

No Names Released, but Investigation Underway

While details of the boy’s identity, his hometown, and the names of the girls involved have been withheld for privacy and safety reasons, Obinabo confirmed that the matter has been escalated and is being investigated further. Health officials and social workers may be deployed to the affected community to assess the mental and physical wellbeing of the girls.

A senior source in the Ministry of Youths and Social Development, who spoke anonymously, said the case could lead to a wider campaign for adolescent sexual behavior awareness in Anambra and other parts of southeastern Nigeria.

Public Reactions Pour In

Social media has been buzzing since the Commissioner’s video went live, with a mix of outrage, shock, and concern from parents, civil society groups, and religious leaders.

“This is a sign of deep moral decay,” said Reverend Paul Okoye of the Church of Restoration Ministries in Onitsha. “Our communities must return to values-based upbringing, and the government must act fast to protect these girls and correct this boy.”

Others have called for professional psychiatric evaluation of the boy, while some suggest he may be under a spiritual influence requiring traditional or religious intervention.

A Wake-Up Call for Society

The incident has thrown a spotlight on several underlying issues in Nigerian society: lack of sexual education, peer pressure, parental negligence, and the growing concern over adolescent behavior in both urban and rural communities.

Commissioner Obinabo has called for a stakeholder meeting to brainstorm solutions, involving religious leaders, traditional rulers, psychologists, teachers, and parents.

“Whatever the root cause—spiritual, psychological, or social—we must find a solution together. This is not just a family issue anymore; it is a community emergency,” she concluded.
