Dr. Jennifer Gbogbor: A Voice for Marine Justice from the Heart of Egbema Kingdom

By Prince Agbedeyi O. D (+2348134902214)

Dr. Jennifer Yoromar Gbogbor is a rising academic and environmental advocate hailing from Ofunama, one of the prominent communities in the historic Egbema Kingdom of Nigeria’s Niger Delta. A proud daughter of Ijaw heritage, she represents a new generation of scholars committed not only to education but also to ecological and societal justice.

She currently serves in the School of General Studies at the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, where her academic and research work centers on marine environmental protection, ethics, and sustainability. Her passion for clean and equitable waterways led her to co-author a pivotal research paper titled “Marine Environmental Pollution in Nigeria and Its Possible Implication and Solution”, published in the AMAMIHE: Journal of Applied Philosophy.

In her research, Dr. Gbogbor offers a sobering analysis of Nigeria’s marine pollution crisis—unpacking the destructive consequences of oil spills, industrial waste, gas flaring, and illegal bunkering on marine life and human communities. Her work calls for urgent ethical intervention, strong government policy, and community collaboration to restore the integrity of Nigeria’s aquatic environment.

A beacon of intellect from the creeks of Ofunama, Dr. Gbogbor continues to inspire young women in the Niger Delta and beyond, proving that scholarly excellence can be a powerful tool for advocacy and transformation. Her contributions affirm the enduring legacy of the Egbema Kingdom in producing leaders committed to the well-being of their people and environment.
