In this edition, we turn our spotlight on Mrs. Esther Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, the First Lady of Ondo State. Since her husband, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, assumed office, Mrs. Aiyedatiwa has actively stepped into her role with programs and initiatives targeted at empowering women, combating societal ills, and revitalizing the state’s social development landscape.
Below are ten verifiable contributions attributed to her office:
1. OUR EASE Initiative
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa launched the OUR EASE initiative (Empowerment, Accessibility, Support, and Education), a comprehensive program designed to uplift women and persons with disabilities in Ondo State. The initiative focuses on infrastructure, healthcare, and capacity-building.
2. War Against Human Trafficking
She initiated a statewide anti-human trafficking campaign in partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service. This campaign promotes awareness, strengthens surveillance at borders, and aims to safeguard vulnerable girls and women from exploitation.
3. Advocacy for Women in Leadership
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa has championed the cause of female inclusion in leadership roles, encouraging women to step into political, administrative, and corporate leadership positions across the state and beyond.
4. N68.9 Million Grant for Women Farmers
Through collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, she facilitated a N68.9 million grant to boost agricultural productivity and financial independence among women farmers in Ondo State.
5. N50 Million Grant for Rural Women Empowerment
She received a N50 million grant on behalf of Ondo rural women from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The funds are targeted at empowering women in local communities through economic support and skills development.
6. Empowerment of 200 Women in the Textile Industry
In her effort to create jobs and revive local industries, she empowered 200 women with training, equipment, and startup capital in tailoring and textile production.
7. Support for Educational Scholarships
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa facilitated scholarship programs for Ondo youth, including study opportunities in Belarus, focusing on education as a vehicle for long-term empowerment.
8. Revival of the Office of the First Lady
After a period of inactivity, she re-energized the Office of the First Lady with public engagements, grassroots outreach, and institutional coordination, making the office once again a hub for advocacy and community development.
9. Hosting of Nigeria’s First Lady
She led the warm and elaborate reception of Senator Oluremi Tinubu in Akure, showcasing the state's hospitality and highlighting Ondo’s readiness for strategic national collaboration.
10. Engagement with Traditional Institutions
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa has worked closely with traditional rulers and community heads to promote women’s rights, social development, and cultural preservation.
