EXCLUDED AND FORGOTTEN: The MORE Agenda Must Reach Opuama and Polobubor
EXCLUDED AND FORGOTTEN: The MORE Agenda Must Reach Opuama and Polobubor

When Governor Sheriff Oborevwori unveiled the MORE Agenda — a blueprint promising Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security — many Deltans saw a new dawn. It was a call to build a Delta where equity is not a privilege but a right, and where no community is left behind.
But for the people of Opuama and Polobubor in Egbema Kingdom, Warri North LGA, that promise remains unfulfilled. Despite being oil-producing communities, contributing immensely to the economy of Delta State, they have received little or no direct impact from the MORE Agenda.
Their cries echo through neglected waterways and crumbling schools. The health centres are shadows of what they should be. Access roads remain a nightmare. Youths are unemployed. Women are abandoned. Hope is shrinking.
IS THE MORE AGENDA SELECTIVE?
There is growing concern that while urban centres and political strongholds benefit from the Governor’s agenda, riverine and marginalized areas like Opuama and Polobubor are treated like afterthoughts. This imbalance is dangerous — not only because it contradicts the spirit of inclusiveness that the MORE Agenda proclaims, but because it risks alienating loyal, peaceful, and resource-rich communities.
This is a grave injustice, and silence is no longer an option.
A CLARION CALL TO HIS EXCELLENCY
Your Excellency, this is a heartfelt plea — not from political antagonists, but from your people, whose backs are pressed against the wall. We believe in your vision. But belief must be matched with action.
We urge your administration to:
- Prioritize infrastructure in Opuama and Polobubor.
- Deploy targeted youth and women empowerment programs.
- Ensure fair representation in appointments and project allocation.
- Establish a functional presence of state institutions in these communities.
Development must be seen, touched, and felt — not just promised.
WHEN THE PEOPLE SPEAK, THE GOVERNMENT MUST LISTEN
Opuama and Polobubor are not asking for favors — only for fairness. The MORE Agenda should not be a slogan but a standard. Let the riverine voices count. Let the creeks matter. Let justice flow like the rivers that surround us.
