“Fatherhood Is Not for Small Boys”: A Father’s Day Special in Egbema

Once upon a Sunday morning in the heart of Egbema, a father named Chief Papa-Ebi woke up with a swagger in his step and a feeling in his chest. It was Father’s Day, and he was certain his family was planning something big for him—maybe a goat roast, maybe a new wrapper, or perhaps even the elusive “thank you, Daddy” he hadn’t heard since 2003.
But little did he know that this Father’s Day was going to be one for the comedy books.
The Great Surprise That Surprised Nobody
His wife, Mama-Ebi, called the children together. “Today, we must surprise your father!” she declared.
At 6:30 am, the surprise was launched.
They barged into the room singing “Daddy yo, Daddy yo, you too much!” but forgot Papa-Ebi was still in his black native with only one button holding it together. He jumped in shock, fell off the bed, and shouted, “Jesu! Is this rapture or robbers?”
The kids froze. Mama-Ebi burst out laughing.
“Na Father’s Day o,” the eldest child said, handing him hot tea that had spilled halfway during their entry. Papa-Ebi sipped and smiled proudly like a king who just conquered Ayakoromo.
Fatherhood in Egbema: A Sacred Assignment
Every father in Egbema knows this truth: fatherhood is not for the faint of heart.
Ask Mr. Peremobowei Jaja, the man who once shouted at NEPA so fiercely that light was restored in five minutes (although later we found out it was coincidence). Or Daddy Teacher, who is known to recite multiplication tables in his sleep and expects his children to say “Good morning sir” before asking for garri.
Yet they keep going—with their big bellies, loud snores, and generous hearts.
To Every Egbema Father
Today, we raise our wrappers, cups of palm wine, and hands in salute to our Egbema fathers:
- The disciplinarians who used eyes sharper than any cane.
- The storytellers whose moonlight tales shaped generations.
- The hustlers who turned fishing nets into school fees.
- The prayer warriors who never missed 5am intercessory rounds.
- And the men who knew every child’s shoe size, even if they never wore shoes themselves growing up.
You are heroes, comedians, protectors, and providers—all rolled into one.
Even when you shout, “Who left this pot on the fire?” and nobody answers… we know you love us. Even when you pretend not to cry at graduation ceremonies, we know your heart is full.
Final Words from Mama-Ebi
“Na we dey celebrate una today,” she said with a wink, “but tomorrow, make una still wash plate!”
🧡 Happy Father’s Day to All Egbema Fathers!
From the entire team at Global Egberi Media International, we say thank you for your unwavering love and laughter.
