Air Peace, Embraer to Build Aircraft Maintenance Facility in Lagos

Lagos, Nigeria – August 28, 2025 – In a landmark move for Nigeria’s aviation industry, Air Peace, West Africa’s largest airline, has partnered with Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer to establish a state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance facility in Lagos.

The project, set to commence operations in 2026, is designed to serve as a regional Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub capable of handling complex checks and servicing for Embraer aircraft, including the E195-E2 jets currently in Air Peace’s fleet.

A Boost for Nigeria’s Aviation Sector

The new facility will drastically reduce Nigeria’s dependence on foreign MRO centers, where local airlines currently spend millions of dollars annually for aircraft maintenance. This development is projected to save costs, strengthen safety compliance, and retain aviation revenue within the country.

Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, described the initiative as a “game-changing achievement” not only for Air Peace but also for the entire aviation ecosystem in Africa. He noted that the partnership will enhance Nigeria’s technical capacity, create hundreds of jobs for engineers and technicians, and position Lagos as a leading aviation hub on the continent.

Regional Significance

Industry analysts believe the Lagos facility will attract other African carriers to Nigeria for maintenance services, boosting regional cooperation while reducing turnaround times and operational bottlenecks.

Officials from Embraer emphasized that the collaboration reflects their commitment to supporting African airlines and ensuring that technical solutions are closer to operators within the region.

Economic and Employment Impact

The facility is expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for Nigerians, including aviation engineers, logistics professionals, administrative staff, and local contractors. It will also offer avenues for capacity building and technology transfer between Brazilian and Nigerian aviation experts.

Observers say this project further strengthens Air Peace’s reputation as a trailblazer in African aviation, while reinforcing Nigeria’s ambition to become a dominant player in the global air transport sector.
