The ancient Arogbo-Ijaw Kingdom in Ondo State came alive today in a colourful display of cultural heritage and royalty as His Imperial Majesty, Pere Zacchaeus Doubra Egbunu Esq., (JP, FCAI, LL.M) Opukutu III, the Agadagba and Paramount Ruler of Arogbo-Ijaw Ibe, formally conferred and installed Hon. Kingsley Kemebradigha Kuku, Ph.D with one of the kingdom’s most exalted titles:

Senior High Chief Agbagbatuwa Pouye (Mighty Rock) of Arogbo-Ijaw Ibe Kingdom.

The conferment, which took place at the Ibe Palace, Arogbo, symbolises not only a personal honour for Hon. Kuku but also an historic milestone for the entire Arogbo-Ijaw nation.

Title of Strength and Symbolism

The title Agbagbatuwa Pouye—translated as Mighty Rock—is rich in symbolism. It reflects strength, stability, and protection, values that have consistently defined Dr. Kuku’s life of service, leadership, and advocacy for peace.

The Agadagba, while decorating Dr. Kuku with the royal crown and insignia, described the honour as both a recognition of past sacrifices and a solemn call to deeper responsibility in preserving the heritage, unity, and progress of the Arogbo-Ijaw Ibe.

His Majesty prayed for wisdom, blessings, and greater exploits for the new Senior High Chief as he assumes the responsibilities of the exalted title.

Dr. Kuku’s Response

In his remarks, an emotional but eloquent Hon. Kingsley Kemebradigha Kuku, Ph.D, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Agadagba, the royal family, and the entire Arogbo-Ijaw people.

He reflected on his long years of service to the Niger Delta—particularly his tenure as Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, where he oversaw peacebuilding and reintegration efforts.

Kuku pledged that the honour would further strengthen his resolve to continue working for the upliftment of the Ijaw nation and the development of the Niger Delta region, noting that the Mighty Rock title is a reminder of responsibility, resilience, and service.
