BREAKING NEWS: Dept. of Mathematics Produces Two PhDs and One MSc Under the Supervision of Prof. S. O. Maliki

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has once again written its name in gold as the Department of Mathematics proudly graduated two PhD scholars and one MSc student, all successfully supervised by the renowned academic giant, Prof. S. O. Maliki (PhD).

This landmark achievement reinforces the department’s reputation as a center of excellence in mathematical research, innovation, and academic mentorship.

🎓 The Graduating Scholars

1. Dr. Agbedeyi Odimientimi Desmond (PhD)

Dissertation Title: “Mathematical Modeling of the Digital Currency Market: A Case Study of Bitcoin”
Submitted to the Postgraduate School, MOUAU, in December 2024.

His research provides deep mathematical insights into cryptocurrency and its global economic implications. By applying advanced modeling techniques, his work makes a groundbreaking contribution to the emerging field of financial mathematics, offering fresh perspectives on the volatility and long-term stability of digital currencies.

2. Dr. Madubuike Chinyere (PhD)

Dissertation Title: “AN ENHANCED BIOMATHEMATICAL MODEL OF THE 2020 NOVEL CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID - 19) PANDEMIC - CONTROL/PREVENTION".

Her study applied mathematical tools to understand the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic, offering models that could improve policy decisions, epidemic predictions, and strategies for public health management.

Her success not only strengthens the body of knowledge in applied mathematics but also stands as an inspiration to Nigerian women breaking barriers in STEM.

3. Mr. Etebefia Stephen Oghenevwoke (M.Sc.)

Thesis Title: “Mathematical Modeling of  Endemic Corruption :The Nigeria Perspective

This master’s research bravely addresses one of Nigeria’s greatest socio-political challenges. By applying mathematical modeling to corruption dynamics, his work opens new conversations on how quantitative reasoning can be used to understand and combat systemic issues in governance.

His achievement marks another stride in the department’s commitment to raising competent postgraduate researchers capable of tackling national and global challenges.
