The countdown has officially begun as the people of Ofunama Community, the motherland of the Egbema Kingdom, prepare to host one of the most anticipated cultural celebrations of the coming year — Great Ofunama Day 2026. Scheduled to hold from January 3rd to January 8th, 2026, this annual event promises six days of vibrant activities, cultural exhibitions, sports competitions, and community bonding.

According to the organizers, Great Ofunama Day is not just a festival — it is a homecoming, a renewal of identity, and an expression of collective pride for the Ofunama people across Nigeria and the diaspora.


A Week of Colourful Activities

This year’s lineup reflects the community’s commitment to celebrating tradition while embracing modern entertainment. Each day carries a unique theme designed to showcase the talents, heritage, and resilience of the people.

3rd January 2026 — Children Cultural Display & Talent Show

The celebration opens with the voices and creativity of the younger generation. Children will take center stage, displaying cultural dances, storytelling, music, and artistic performances that reflect Ofunama’s rich heritage.

4th January 2026  Owu-Biniduobobai (Adult Masquerade Display)

One of the festival's most iconic events, the adult masquerade display brings ancient tradition to life. The Owu Biniduobobai is celebrated for its powerful symbolism, graceful movement, and deep ancestral significance.

5th January 2026 — Academic Welfare, Swimming, Bowling & Football Match

A blend of intellectual engagement and sporting excitement. This day is dedicated to academic support initiatives, followed by friendly swimming contests, bowling sessions, and a unifying football match.

6th January 2026 — Beach Party

With music powered by Gen Bestmay Jfred and DJ Greg, the community will gather along Ofunama’s scenic waterfront for an electrifying beach party filled with dance, laughter, and cultural fellowship.

7th January 2026 — Midkuwei Kei (Ofunama Ijaw Snooker Competition)

A highlight for lovers of indoor games. The traditional snooker competition showcases skill, strategy, and community rivalry in a friendly, exciting atmosphere.

8th January 2026 — Owu Binikorobai Performance

The festival rounds off with another captivating display of the great Owu Binikorobai, featuring live music by King Pereama Freetown JP. This closing event symbolizes unity, thanksgiving, and the cultural heartbeat of the Ijaw people.
