A group of aggrieved families from Ogbinbiri have raised alarm over increasing destruction of farmland, encroachment, and alleged bias in the ongoing land boundary dispute with Ogbudugbudu.
The families, represented by Itoko Uyadongha Steven, appealed directly to High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), urging him to intervene urgently before the situation escalates further.
Family Representative Speaks Out
Itoko Uyadongha Steven, representative of the aggrieved families in Ogbinbiri, highlighted the deep historical and ancestral ties to the disputed land:
“There can be no peace in a place where there is no truth and justice. I am the son of High Chief Itoko, grandson of Abisoko, and great-grandson of Abana. Maternally, I am from Ofiseye Daugbolo lineage. My forefathers have lived across Ogbinbiri and Ogbudugbudu peacefully, cultivating plantain, cassava, cocoa, rubber, other cash crops, and engaging in fishery. The lands I inherited from my father have never been in dispute.”
He emphasized that their grievance is specific to the affected families and does not represent the entire Ogbinbiri community, but insists that ongoing destruction of crops and manipulation of boundaries is threatening their livelihoods, heritage, and peace.
Farmlands Destroyed, Families Distressed
The families reported that large expanses of farmland—covering over 500 acres—have already been damaged, leaving households without essential crops.
“Some of our people are now considering moving to Swali because their farms have been ruined. This land is our only source of livelihood,” Itoko Uyadongha Steven told this reporter.
Among the destroyed crops are Usere, Cherry, Plantain, Banana, Cocoa, and Cassava, which the community depends on for survival and income.
Women Lead Initial Protests
Currently, women in Ogbinbiri have led initial protests over the destruction, warning that if the situation continues, more community members will join.
“If Tompolo does not come, there will be no peace. If the destruction continues, we will have no option but to seek other means of help,” Itoko Uyadongha Steven stated.
Calls for Tompolo’s Intervention
In a viral appeal, Chief Ambassador Ebi Eyenmi called on Tompolo to act swiftly to prevent further destruction and restore peace in Ogbinbiri.
“Tompolo must intervene immediately to stop the destruction of ancestral farms and ensure that justice and peace return to Ogbinbiri. Delay could escalate tensions unnecessarily,” Chief Ambassador Ebi Eyenmi said.
The families and community members insist that any resolution must be fair, transparent, and inclusive, rejecting unilateral actions, manipulation of boundaries, and forceful imposition of new land markers.
Itoko Uyadongha Steven reiterated the families’ plea for a just and peaceful resolution.
Appeal for Peace, Fairness, and Proper Mediation
“We want peace. But peace must come with justice. Since Tompolo has already started the process, we plead with him to return and settle it openly and justly,” Itoko Uyadongha Steven said on behalf of the families.

Quiet Voices, Serious Issues: Why Early Intervention Matters
Land disputes in the Niger Delta often start with specific families rather than community-wide outcry. These “quiet voices” reflect deep-rooted issues that, if ignored, can escalate quickly.
A swift and transparent mediation, led by a neutral and respected figure, is essential to prevent escalation. Tompolo, given his track record in regional peace efforts, is well-positioned to restore clarity and peace.
Mediation must focus strictly on facts, historical ownership, and fairness, not influence, politics, or power. Immediate intervention is necessary to protect livelihoods, relationships, and fragile community peace in Ogbinbiri.
