Ali Modu Sheriff Declares Tinubu Unstoppable Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former Governor of Borno State and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has made a bold and unwavering declaration regarding the 2027 presidential elections, affirming that only two things could prevent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from winning reelection: the absence of elections or a personal decision by the president not to run.
Speaking with journalists at a political gathering in Abuja on Monday, Sheriff stated with unflinching confidence:
“I can tell you for free, the only things that will stop Tinubu from winning the elections in 2027 are only two factors: One, if there are no elections; two, if he decides not to run.”
“Tinubu Has No Rival in 2027” – Sheriff Asserts
The former senator, known for his political sagacity and deep roots within the northern political establishment, praised Tinubu's style of leadership and described him as a pragmatic administrator who has steadily gained the trust of Nigerians through strategic reforms, inclusive governance, and firm handling of national issues.
Sheriff dismissed the notion of a formidable opposition emerging before 2027, stressing that President Tinubu's political structure, grassroots network, and performance in office would be more than enough to secure victory again.
“We all know the strength and structure of the APC under Tinubu’s leadership. Nobody in the current political landscape has the experience, alliances, and resilience that the president brings to the table,” he said.
Opposition, Economic Challenges Not Enough to Unseat Tinubu – Sheriff
Addressing concerns about the economic difficulties and rising cost of living currently faced by citizens, the former governor argued that such phases are typical of administrations that are undertaking deep structural reforms. According to him, the president should be commended rather than condemned for the courage to take tough decisions in the national interest.
“Nigeria’s challenges didn’t start yesterday, and they won’t be solved overnight. What matters is that we have a president who is willing to act and not just talk. By 2027, the results of these policies will speak for themselves,” he added.
Reactions Trail Sheriff's Statement
Sheriff’s remarks have drawn mixed reactions from political observers. While supporters of the APC hailed the comment as a confident endorsement of Tinubu’s leadership, critics argue that it dismisses the democratic process and trivializes the role of opposition parties in a multi-party system.
Some opposition voices have also responded, accusing Sheriff of attempting to impose a narrative of inevitability and overconfidence, while the PDP and Labour Party continue to express readiness to field strong candidates against the incumbent administration in 2027.
Nonetheless, Sheriff’s bold declaration has once again positioned him as a key northern voice in national politics, and his words are likely to stir both strategy and sentiment as political permutations for 2027 continue to unfold.
