Babcock University, a premier faith-based institution in Nigeria, celebrated academic brilliance during its 23rd Convocation Ceremony held on Sunday at its main campus in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State. A total of 3,568 students graduated across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, reaffirming the university’s commitment to academic distinction and holistic education.
Record-Breaking First Class Honours
In a historic academic feat, 243 students graduated with First Class degrees, showcasing the university’s robust academic structure and the dedication of its students. Among them, Lawal Oyiza, an Economics graduate, emerged as the Best Graduating Student with an exceptional Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.97.
Breakdown of Graduating Classes
The university's Registrar announced that out of the 3,568 graduates:
- 2,543 students earned first degrees
- 686 completed postgraduate programmes, including:
- 217 PhD degrees
- 30 MPhil degrees
- 359 Master’s degrees
- 80 Postgraduate Diplomas
Vice Chancellor's Final Charge to Graduates
In an emotional valedictory address, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Ademola Tayo, who is set to leave office in November 2025 after a decade of transformative leadership, encouraged the graduands to live impactful lives rooted in service, tolerance, and character.
“Dear graduates, you have responsibilities to Nigeria and the whole world. I encourage you to set aside your iPods, iPads and iPhones for a while and focus on your fellow human beings,” he urged.
Prof. Tayo emphasized the importance of volunteerism, spiritual discipline, and using education as a tool for justice and innovation. “Let your knowledge serve justice. Let your talents solve problems. Let your values inspire hope. Be fearless, be kind. Be Babcock,” he concluded.

Highlighting key achievements under his administration, Professor Tayo recounted the university's tremendous growth including:
- Institutionalization of data-driven leadership practices
- Accreditation of new academic programmes, particularly in Engineering and Environmental Sciences
- Massive infrastructural expansion
- Elevated global profile through alumni and staff achievements
Pan-African Message: Promote Peace and Development
Dr. Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a Zimbabwean diplomat and special guest speaker, urged the graduating class to embrace peacebuilding and leadership roles across Africa and beyond. He charged them to apply their education toward reducing global violence and fostering harmony in their respective communities.
