A significant political and cultural moment unfolded on June 29, 2025, as a high-level delegation from the Aseyori Group Ese-Odo Local Government Chapter, led by its coordinator Comr. Joshua Arekete, paid a historic courtesy visit to His Imperial Majesty Pere Barr. Doubra Z. Egbunu JP, Opukutu III, the Agadagba and Paramount Ruler of Arogbo Kingdom.
The aim of the visit was to solicit royal blessings and unwavering support for the re-election bid of Senator (Dr.) Jimoh Ibrahim Folorunso, PhD, CFR, who is seeking a second term as the representative of Ondo South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate. The visit symbolized both a political alignment and deep cultural reverence for the traditional institution.
Opening Session
The event commenced with a warm welcome and formal introduction by the secretary of the group, Apostle Mogul Gabai Ebimiyen, who presented the delegation and its purpose to the palace chiefs and elders. The group was graciously received despite the spontaneity of the visit and the busy schedule of His Majesty.
High Chief Pius Kpejor, the Palace Secretary of Arogbo Kingdom, formally introduced the Agadagba, His Imperial Majesty Pere D.Z. Egbunu JP, and the Queen, alongside other esteemed high chiefs and palace officials.
Traditional Presentation & Royal Address
In accordance with Arogbo tradition, Comr. Joshua Arekete offered a token with wine to honor the monarch. This was followed by the official presentation of a larger token and wine, a symbolic gesture of respect and goodwill from the Aseyori Group on behalf of their principal, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.
During his address, Comr. Arekete extolled the achievements of Senator Ibrahim, emphasizing his consistent developmental efforts across the senatorial district. He noted the Senator's commitment to human capital development, facilitation of key infrastructure, and inclusive governance. He conveyed Senator Ibrahim’s direct message: “Let the Agadagba of Arogbo Kingdom state his topmost need, and it shall be attended to without delay.”
Agadagba’s Response
In a candid response, the Agadagba expressed disappointment that after mobilizing over 255 communities in Arogbo Kingdom to support Senator Ibrahim and other candidates during the previous election, the Senator had failed to return with a word of appreciation. The monarch emphasized the importance of gratitude, stating, “It is God who enthrones and dethrones a king.”
His Imperial Majesty stated unequivocally that his topmost priority for Arogbo Kingdom is the construction of the Agadagba-Obon/Arogbo Bridge. He charged the delegation to relay this message to Senator Ibrahim, urging him to take decisive action on this vital infrastructure project.
The palace secretary, High Chief Kpejor, reiterated the monarch’s position and appealed to the Senator to also consider palace aides and workers in his empowerment programs.
Closing Remarks and Assurance
In a concluding remark, Apostle Mogul Gabai Ebimiyen, secretary of the Aseyori Group, expressed deep gratitude to the Agadagba for his leadership, patience, and continued guidance. He reaffirmed the group’s support for Senator Ibrahim’s second-term ambition and promised that the Senator would soon visit the Arogbo Kingdom personally to appreciate the people and reaffirm his commitment.
The atmosphere concluded on a positive note of mutual understanding, cultural pride, and renewed political alliance. The Aseyori Group left the palace with what they described as a “renewed hope agenda” for the future of Arogbo Kingdom and Ondo South at large.
