ROYAL CORONATION IN AGADAGBA AMA: CHIEF AREGBE ONANA CROWNED AMADIWEI
Agadagba Ama, Ondo State – July 24, 2025
In a majestic and culturally rich ceremony that captivated the heart of Arogbo-Ijaw land, Chief Aregbe Onana has been officially crowned as the first Amadiwei of Agadagba Ama. The historic event took place on Thursday, July 24th, 2025, within the royal precincts of the Arogbo-Ibe Traditional Council Palace under the authority of His Imperial Majesty, Pere (Barr.) Zacchaeus Doubra Egbunu Esq., Opukutu III (JP, FCAI, LL.M).
The coronation ceremony was nothing short of regal splendor. It attracted dignitaries, traditional chiefs, community members, and well-wishers from all walks of life who gathered to witness the elevation of Chief Aregbe Onana to the revered position of Amadiwei—a significant title that symbolizes the traditional headship and representation of Agadagba Ama under the Arogbo Kingdom.
Speaking during the event, His Imperial Majesty, Opukutu III, emphasized that the coronation was in response to a longstanding demand by the people of Agadagba Ama for closer traditional oversight and cultural leadership. He noted that with the growing socio-political and developmental responsibilities facing the region, the appointment of a direct traditional representative would foster unity, coordination, and progress.
"The community of Agadagba Ama has, over the years, yearned for proper representation in the traditional system. Today, that need has been met with the installation of a capable and loyal son of the soil as their Amadiwei," declared His Imperial Majesty.
As the Amadiwei of Agadagba Ama, Chief Aregbe Onana will henceforth function as the “Eye of His Imperial Majesty” within the community, presiding over customary matters, traditional festivals, dispute resolutions, and administrative affairs in line with the cultural protocols of the Arogbo-Ibe Kingdom.
The coronation event included the performance of age-old rites, traditional music, dances, royal invocations, and the ceremonial handing over of the staff of office. The climax of the ceremony came with the royal blessing from the monarch and the elders, which symbolically sealed Chief Onana's elevation as a custodian of the people’s heritage and a beacon of leadership for Agadagba Ama.
Many community members described the occasion as a moment of pride and a new dawn for Agadagba Ama. Local elders, youth leaders, and women representatives expressed joy at the coronation, citing it as a move that will enhance identity, unity, and development within the locality.
As drums faded and the palace courtyard emptied, the people returned to their homes with renewed hope and cultural pride, knowing that their community now stands fully integrated into the traditional governance framework of Arogbo-Ibe Kingdom under the esteemed watch of their own Amadiwei.
